Ready for GHS

New Challenges in Label Printing

In implementing the GHS/CLP requirements, the amount of printed information significantly increases and end up with completely new challenges for label printing. This forces very often to larger layouts and packaging.

The fact that there must be no empty or unused hazard symbols, has an increase to pre-printed label material stock and lift the priority on the demand for color printing. Just changing times of the pre-printed labels can lead to significant delays in production.

Supporting such Requirements

PRISYM design and in particular the PRISYM Chemica version supports you with these requirements in the field of variable language-specific texts and their dynamic adaptation to the space available on the layout design. This applies to flexible handling of languages, text flow around images and the automatic font scaling for all available Windows fonts.

In the chemical industry handling of hazardous and precautionary statements is daily business. Here is often at least English, German and the language of country for delivery required. Our language-dependent variables allow a choice of language at print time.

To support layout designs with larger text content and using space as best as possible, we offer the text flow function accross layout fields. This can be used for a column based layout or you can let text flow around the GHS diamond shapes.

Font Scaling

Further optimizations provided by our automatic text scaling. The text content is adjusted automatically on the font size. You can specify the minimum and maximum point size and character width between 50-200%.

Changes to Production Printing

Apart from the possibility to extend your label stock to a certain number of label versions with pre-printed red diamonds, there is also the possibility to expand your production printing to color printing. Here the required label material (paper or plastic) plays a major role.

However, the requirements are not few in color printing and the selection of suitable printing systems is currently not just big. Based on the required solvent resistance, you may consider thermal transfer color printers with two colored ribbons which allows to print on standard label materials such as paper, PP and PE.

An alternative can be found with inkjet systems even for full color printing. In general this print method require special materials, but the right combination can even reach BS5609 approval for marine conditions and high solvent resistance.
